హైదరాబాద్: గ్రంథాలయం అంటే కేవలం పుస్తకాలు దాచే గది కాదు.. అది విజ్ఞాన భాండాగారం. మనిషి ఆలోచనా పరిధిని విస్తరించే వేదిక. పుస్తకం చదివే అలవాటు వ్యక్తిత్వాన్ని తీర్చిదిద్దడంతో పాటు సమాజాన్ని చైతన్యవంతం చేస్తుంది. అయితే విశ్వనగరంగా ఎదిగిన హైదరాబాద్లో పౌర గ్రంథాలయాలు మాత్రం కాలానుగుణంగా అభివృద్ధి చెందడం లేదు. నగరంలో 83 పౌర గ్రంథాలయాలు ఉన్నప్పటికీ వాటి నిర్వహణకు సరిపడా సిబ్బంది, ఆధునిక సాంకేతిక వసతులు, డిజిటల్ సేవలు అందుబాటులో లేకపోవడం ఆందోళన కలిగిస్తోంది.
ప్రస్తుతం హైదరాబాద్ నగర గ్రంథాలయ సంస్థ పరిధిలోని పౌర గ్రంథాలయాల్లో కేవలం 21 మంది రెగ్యులర్ సిబ్బంది మాత్రమే పనిచేస్తున్నట్లు సమాచారం. దీంతో కొన్ని గ్రంథాలయాల్లో అటెండర్లు, స్వీపర్లే గ్రంథాలయాల నిర్వహణ బాధ్యతలు చూసుకోవాల్సిన పరిస్థితి ఏర్పడిందని చరిత్ర పరిశోధకుడు సంగిశెట్టి శ్రీనివాస్ ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేస్తున్నారు. కనీసం 60 మంది లైబ్రేరియన్లను నియమిస్తేనే నగరంలోని పౌర గ్రంథాలయ వ్యవస్థకు పునరుజ్జీవం వస్తుందని నిపుణులు అభిప్రాయపడుతున్నారు.
యువతతో కళకళలాడుతున్న లైబ్రరీలు
హైదరాబాద్లోని పౌర గ్రంథాలయాల్లో ప్రస్తుతం యువతీ, యువకుల సందడి కనిపిస్తోంది. అయితే వీరిలో ఎక్కువమంది పోటీ పరీక్షలకు సిద్ధమవుతున్న విద్యార్థులే. గ్రూప్స్, సివిల్స్, బ్యాంకింగ్, ఎస్ఎస్సీ, రైల్వే తదితర పోటీ పరీక్షలకు సిద్ధమయ్యే అభ్యర్థులకు గ్రంథాలయాలు చదువుకు అనుకూలమైన వాతావరణాన్ని అందిస్తున్నాయి.
అయితే ఇదే వేదికను యువతలో సాహిత్య పఠనాసక్తిని పెంపొందించేందుకు ఉపయోగించుకోవచ్చని సాహిత్యాభిమానులు సూచిస్తున్నారు. పోటీ పరీక్షల పుస్తకాలతో పాటు తెలుగు, హిందీ, ఇంగ్లిష్ సాహిత్యం, జీవిత చరిత్రలు, చరిత్ర, విజ్ఞానం, తత్వశాస్త్రం, సమకాలీన అంశాలపై పుస్తకాలను అందుబాటులో ఉంచితే యువత చదువుపై మరింత ఆసక్తి పెంచుకునే అవకాశం ఉంటుంది.

A notable example of modern library culture is the Coforge Library in Kondapur, established under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The library reportedly houses more than 15,000 books in Telugu, Hindi and English. It remains accessible to readers throughout the year, offering a reading space for young people, children and professionals working in Hyderabad’s IT corridor.
The response to the library also challenges the perception that young people are no longer interested in physical books.
The popularity of the Hyderabad Book Fair and Hyderabad Literary Festival, along with the growing interest in libraries such as the Coforge Library, indicates that printed books continue to have a strong place in the digital age.
AI age makes modern libraries more important
The rise of artificial intelligence, e-books, audiobooks, YouTube and OTT platforms has transformed the way people consume information and entertainment. Yet these developments have not eliminated the need for physical libraries.
