హైదరాబాద్, సెప్టెంబర్ 21, 2026: హైదరాబాద్లోని ట్యాంక్బండ్పై గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం అంశం మరోసారి ఉద్రిక్తతకు దారితీసింది. ట్యాంక్బండ్పై గణేశ్ విగ్రహాల నిమజ్జనానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వడం లేదంటూ భాగ్యనగర్ గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధులు సోమవారం ఆందోళనకు దిగారు. ట్యాంక్బండ్ వద్ద ఏర్పాటు చేసిన బారికేడ్లను నిరసనకారులు తొలగించడంతో పోలీసులు అడ్డుకున్నారు. ఈ క్రమంలో ఇరువర్గాల మధ్య తోపులాట జరగడంతో పరిస్థితి ఉద్రిక్తంగా మారింది.
బారికేడ్లు తొలగింపు.. పోలీసులతో తోపులాట
గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం ట్యాంక్బండ్పైనే నిర్వహించాలి అంటూ భాగ్యనగర్ గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధులు నినాదాలు చేస్తూ ఆందోళన చేపట్టారు. ట్యాంక్బండ్ చుట్టూ అధికారులు ఏర్పాటు చేసిన ఇనుప బారికేడ్లను వారు తొలగించారు. పోలీసులు వారిని అడ్డుకునే ప్రయత్నం చేయడంతో కొద్దిసేపు ఉద్రిక్త పరిస్థితి నెలకొంది. ఈ సందర్భంగా జరిగిన తోపులాటలో పలువురు పోలీసులు కిందపడినట్లు స్థానిక మీడియా కథనాలు వెల్లడించాయి.
బారికేడ్లు తొలగించిన అనంతరం ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధులు అక్కడే బైఠాయించి నిరసన కొనసాగించారు. పరిస్థితిని అదుపులో ఉంచేందుకు పోలీసులు పెద్ద సంఖ్యలో ట్యాంక్బండ్ పరిసరాల్లో మోహరించారు.
ట్యాంక్బండ్పైనే నిమజ్జనం చేయాలన్న ఉత్సవ సమితి
ట్యాంక్బండ్ గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం హైదరాబాద్లో ఏళ్లుగా కొనసాగుతున్న సంప్రదాయ కార్యక్రమమని భాగ్యనగర్ గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి పేర్కొంటోంది. నిమజ్జనంపై విధించిన ఆంక్షలను తొలగించి, ట్యాంక్బండ్పై గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వాలని సమితి డిమాండ్ చేస్తోంది.
సెప్టెంబర్ 20న కూడా సమితి ట్యాంక్బండ్పై నిమజ్జనానికి సంబంధించిన ఆంక్షలను వ్యతిరేకిస్తూ నిరసనకు పిలుపునిచ్చింది. ట్యాంక్బండ్ తమకు సంప్రదాయ నిమజ్జన ప్రాంతమని సమితి తన వైఖరిని వెల్లడించింది.
అధికారుల ప్రత్యామ్నాయ ఏర్పాట్లు
మరోవైపు, హుస్సేన్సాగర్ గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం కోసం అధికారులు ప్రత్యామ్నాయ ఏర్పాట్లు చేస్తున్నారు. ఎన్టీఆర్ మార్గ్, పీపుల్స్ ప్లాజా, నెక్లెస్ రోడ్ ప్రాంతాల్లో క్రేన్లను ఏర్పాటు చేసి నిమజ్జన ప్రక్రియను నిర్వహించేలా ఏర్పాట్లు చేస్తున్నట్లు నివేదికలు పేర్కొంటున్నాయి.
అధికారుల ప్రకారం, పర్యావరణ పరిరక్షణ నిబంధనల నేపథ్యంలో ప్లాస్టర్ ఆఫ్ పారిస్ (PoP) విగ్రహాల నిమజ్జనానికి ప్రత్యేక బేబీ పాండ్లు, మట్టి మరియు పర్యావరణహిత విగ్రహాల కోసం నిర్దిష్ట నిమజ్జన ప్రాంతాలను ఏర్పాటు చేస్తున్నారు. ట్యాంక్బండ్ నుంచి నేరుగా నిమజ్జనం చేయకుండా ప్రత్యామ్నాయ మార్గాల్లో నిమజ్జనం నిర్వహించాలనే ఏర్పాట్లు కొనసాగుతున్నాయి.

ఈ ఏడాది హైదరాబాద్లో ప్రధాన గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం సెప్టెంబర్ 25న అనంత చతుర్దశి సందర్భంగా నిర్వహించనున్నట్లు భాగ్యనగర్ గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రకటించినట్లు తెలంగాణ టుడే నివేదించింది. దీంతో నిమజ్జనం తేదీ దగ్గరపడుతున్న కొద్దీ ట్యాంక్బండ్ వద్ద భద్రత, ట్రాఫిక్, నిమజ్జన ఏర్పాట్లు కీలకంగా మారుతున్నాయి.
భారీగా పోలీసుల మోహరింపు
ట్యాంక్బండ్ వద్ద తాజా పరిణామాల నేపథ్యంలో పోలీసులు అప్రమత్తమయ్యారు. ట్యాంక్బండ్ గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం, హుస్సేన్సాగర్ పరిసరాల్లో శాంతిభద్రతలకు ఎలాంటి విఘాతం కలగకుండా అదనపు బలగాలను మోహరించారు. నిమజ్జన ఏర్పాట్లు, భక్తుల రాకపోకలు, ట్రాఫిక్ నిర్వహణపై అధికారులు ప్రత్యేక దృష్టి సారిస్తున్నారు.

Hyderabad, September 21, 2026: Tension prevailed at Tank Bund in Hyderabad on Monday after members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi staged a protest demanding permission to immerse Ganesh idols at Tank Bund.
The protest was triggered by restrictions on Ganesh idol immersion at Tank Bund, with the Samithi maintaining that the location has traditionally been associated with the city’s Ganesh immersion celebrations. The protesters demanded that the restrictions on Tank Bund Ganesh immersion be withdrawn.
Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi stages protest
Members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi gathered at Tank Bund and staged a sit-in, raising slogans in support of their demand for Ganesh immersion at Tank Bund.
During the protest, Samithi representatives removed iron barricades that had been installed along the Tank Bund railing to prevent devotees from carrying Ganesh idols to the immersion point. Police personnel attempted to stop them, leading to a scuffle between the protesters and the police. Some police personnel reportedly fell during the confrontation.
Following the incident, the protesters continued their sit-in at the location, while police stepped up security across the Tank Bund area to prevent any further escalation.
Why is Tank Bund Ganesh immersion a major issue?
The dispute over Ganesh immersion at Tank Bund comes amid preparations for the main Hyderabad Ganesh immersion 2026.
The civic administration and Hyderabad Police have been making arrangements at designated immersion points around Hussain Sagar, including areas along Necklace Road and other approved locations. Authorities have also been emphasizing compliance with restrictions concerning Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols and court directions relating to immersion in Hussain Sagar.
The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, however, has opposed the restrictions on Tank Bund Ganesh immersion, arguing that Tank Bund has traditionally been used for the immersion celebrations. The Samithi had already announced a protest against the restrictions before Monday’s confrontation.
Alternative immersion arrangements by authorities
Authorities have prepared alternative arrangements for Ganesh idol immersion in Hyderabad. Additional platforms and cranes have been arranged along designated portions of the Hussain Sagar shoreline, while artificial “baby ponds” are being used for idols that cannot be immersed directly into the lake under the applicable restrictions.
Hyderabad Police have also issued warnings against the direct immersion of PoP Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar and have cited Telangana High Court directions while communicating the restrictions.
The civic administration has been working with police and other departments to manage the large-scale Hyderabad Ganesh immersion, including traffic management, barricading, cranes, sanitation, emergency services and crowd control.
Police step up security at Tank Bund
Following Monday’s protest, police personnel were deployed in large numbers around Tank Bund and Hussain Sagar. Security arrangements have been strengthened to prevent any untoward incident as the main Ganesh immersion procession approaches.
Officials are also monitoring movement around the Tank Bund area and designated immersion points as part of preparations for the major immersion day.
The main centralized Ganesh idol immersion in Hyderabad is scheduled for September 25, according to previously announced arrangements.

The latest confrontation has brought the Tank Bund Ganesh immersion issue back into the spotlight. While authorities are insisting on the prescribed immersion arrangements and restrictions, the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi continues to demand permission for traditional Ganesh idol immersion at Tank Bund.
With the main Hyderabad Ganesh immersion 2026 scheduled for September 25, the dispute over Ganesh immersion at Tank Bund remains a key issue in the city’s Ganesh festival arrangements.
