హైదరాబాద్, సెప్టెంబర్ 21: హైదరాబాద్ ట్యాంక్ బండ్పై గణేశ్ విగ్రహాల నిమజ్జనానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వకపోవడంపై వివాదం మరింత ముదురుతోంది. ట్యాంక్ బండ్పై గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనాన్ని నిషేధించడం దారుణమని కేంద్ర మంత్రి బండి సంజయ్ కుమార్ అన్నారు. గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనానికి అనుమతి కోరుతూ ప్రజాస్వామ్యబద్ధంగా నిరసన చేపట్టిన భాగ్యనగర్ గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధులను అరెస్ట్ చేయడం సరికాదని ఆయన ప్రభుత్వంపై విమర్శలు చేశారు.
ట్యాంక్ బండ్పై ఉద్రిక్తత
హైదరాబాద్ ట్యాంక్ బండ్ వద్ద సోమవారం ఉద్రిక్త పరిస్థితులు నెలకొన్నాయి. ట్యాంక్ బండ్పై గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వాలని డిమాండ్ చేస్తూ భాగ్యనగర్ గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధులు ఆందోళనకు దిగారు. నిమజ్జనంపై విధించిన ఆంక్షలను ఎత్తివేయాలని కోరుతూ నిరసన చేపట్టారు.
నిరసనలో భాగంగా ట్యాంక్ బండ్ పరిసరాల్లో పోలీసులు ఏర్పాటు చేసిన బారికేడ్లను ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధులు తొలగించడంతో పోలీసులు వారిని అడ్డుకున్నారు. ఈ క్రమంలో ఇరువర్గాల మధ్య తోపులాట చోటుచేసుకోవడంతో అక్కడ ఉద్రిక్త వాతావరణం ఏర్పడింది. పరిస్థితిని అదుపులో ఉంచేందుకు పోలీసులు భారీగా మోహరించారు. ట్యాంక్ బండ్పై గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వాలని డిమాండ్ చేస్తూ ఆందోళన చేసిన భాగ్యనగర్ గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి నాయకులు, ప్రతినిధులను పోలీసులు అదుపులోకి తీసుకున్నారు. వారిని గాంధీనగర్ పోలీస్ స్టేషన్కు తరలించినట్లు తాజా మీడియా నివేదికలు వెల్లడించాయి.
ఈ పరిణామంపై కేంద్ర మంత్రి బండి సంజయ్ కుమార్ తీవ్రంగా స్పందించారు. గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధుల అరెస్ట్ను ఆయన తప్పుబట్టారు.

ప్రతి ఏడాది హైదరాబాద్ ట్యాంక్ బండ్పై గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం నిర్వహించడం ఆనవాయితీగా వస్తోందని బండి సంజయ్ పేర్కొన్నారు. ఈసారి కూడా ట్యాంక్ బండ్పై గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వాల్సిందేనని ఆయన స్పష్టం చేశారు.
గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం విషయంలో భక్తుల విశ్వాసాలు, సంప్రదాయాలను పరిగణనలోకి తీసుకోవాలని ఆయన కోరారు. ట్యాంక్ బండ్పై నిమజ్జనానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వాలన్న డిమాండ్పై ప్రభుత్వం సానుకూలంగా స్పందించాలని అన్నారు.

భాగ్యనగర్ గణేశ్ ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రధాన కార్యదర్శి శశిధర్ సహా అరెస్ట్ చేసిన ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధులందరినీ బేషరతుగా విడుదల చేయాలని బండి సంజయ్ డిమాండ్ చేశారు.
ప్రజాస్వామ్యబద్ధంగా నిరసన తెలిపే హక్కు ప్రతి ఒక్కరికీ ఉందని, అలాంటి నిరసనల్లో పాల్గొన్న ఉత్సవ సమితి ప్రతినిధులను అరెస్ట్ చేయడం సరైన విధానం కాదని ఆయన పేర్కొన్నారు.
హుస్సేన్సాగర్ నిమజ్జనంపై ఆంక్షలు
హైదరాబాద్లో గణేశ్ నిమజ్జనం ప్రధానంగా జరిగే ప్రాంతాల్లో హుస్సేన్సాగర్, ట్యాంక్ బండ్ కీలకంగా ఉన్నాయి. ఈ ఏడాది ట్యాంక్ బండ్ వైపు నుంచి హుస్సేన్సాగర్లో గణేశ్ విగ్రహాల నిమజ్జనంపై అధికారులు ఆంక్షలు విధించారు. ప్రత్యామ్నాయ నిమజ్జన ప్రాంతాలు, ఏర్పాట్లపై అధికారులు దృష్టి పెట్టినట్లు వార్తా కథనాలు పేర్కొంటున్నాయి.

Hyderabad, September 21, 2026: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar has strongly opposed the restrictions on Ganesh immersion at Hyderabad’s Tank Bund, calling the arrest of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi representatives unjustified. He demanded that the Telangana government allow Ganesh immersion on Tank Bund and immediately release all the arrested representatives, including Samithi general secretary Shashidhar.
The issue has triggered tension at Hyderabad Tank Bund, with members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi staging a protest against the restrictions imposed on Tank Bund Ganesh immersion. According to reports, protesters removed barricades placed around the Tank Bund area, following which police intervened and several representatives were taken into custody.
Bandi Sanjay Demands Ganesh Immersion on Tank Bund
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Monday, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that restricting Ganesh immersion on Tank Bund was unacceptable. He pointed out that Tank Bund has traditionally been associated with the Hyderabad Ganesh immersion procession.
According to Bandi Sanjay, Ganesh immersion on Tank Bund has been taking place as part of the city’s traditional celebrations, and the government should permit the immersion at the location this year as well.
His remarks come amid an ongoing dispute between the authorities and the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi over arrangements for Ganesh Visarjan in Hyderabad.
Arrest of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi Representatives
The arrest of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi representatives has become another major point of contention.
Bandi Sanjay said that representatives who were conducting a democratic protest against the restrictions should not have been arrested. He demanded the unconditional release of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi general secretary Shashidhar and all other representatives who were detained.
The protests at Tank Bund reportedly led to a confrontation after Samithi representatives attempted to remove barricades installed by the authorities. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers as tension increased in the area.

Authorities have cited environmental concerns and directions concerning immersion of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols in Hussain Sagar. Authorities have been promoting alternative immersion arrangements, including designated artificial ponds and other immersion points. However, the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi has maintained that Tank Bund is a traditional immersion location and has objected to the restrictions.
Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi Opposes Restrictions
The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi has been coordinating the city’s Ganesh festival and immersion arrangements for decades. The Samithi has repeatedly raised concerns regarding the arrangements and restrictions surrounding Ganesh immersion in Hyderabad.
Earlier this month, Samithi general secretary Shashidhar Ravinuthala said the organisation was preparing for the major immersion procession and expected large-scale participation in Hyderabad. The main immersion is scheduled for September 25, Ananta Chaturdashi.
The present dispute has therefore brought Tank Bund Ganesh immersion, Hussain Sagar Ganesh immersion and Hyderabad Ganesh Visarjan 2026 back into focus.
Bandi Sanjay Calls for Unconditional Release
Bandi Sanjay specifically demanded the unconditional release of Shashidhar and all other arrested Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi representatives.
He argued that people and festival organisers should be allowed to express their concerns through democratic means. He also reiterated his demand that the Telangana government permit Ganesh immersion on Tank Bund this year.
The dispute now centres on how the authorities will balance the existing restrictions and environmental concerns with the demands of festival organisers seeking permission for the traditional Tank Bund Ganesh immersion.
With the major Ganesh immersion procession approaching on September 25, the Tank Bund Ganesh immersion controversy is likely to remain a key issue in Hyderabad in the coming days.
