ఇదిలా ఉండగా.. సోమవారం ముఖ్యమంత్రి చంద్రబాబు నాయుడు వెలిగొండ ప్రాజెక్ట్ ఫేజ్-1ను ప్రారంభించి జాతికి అంకితం చేశారు. మార్కాపురం జిల్లా గంటవానిపల్లి సమీపంలోని వెలిగొండ ఫీడర్ కెనాల్ వద్ద ప్రత్యేక కార్యక్రమాలు నిర్వహించారు.
ఈ సందర్భంగా సీఎం చంద్రబాబు నాయుడు కృష్ణమ్మకు చీర, సారె సమర్పించి జలహారతి ఇచ్చారు. అనంతరం వెలిగొండ ప్రాజెక్ట్ పైలాన్ను ఆవిష్కరించారు. స్థానిక రైతులతో బటన్ నొక్కించి నల్లమలసాగర్లోకి నీటిని విడుదల చేశారు.
దీంతో వెలిగొండ ప్రాజెక్ట్ ద్వారా కరవు ప్రాంతాలకు సాగునీరు, తాగునీరు అందించే ప్రక్రియలో కీలక ముందడుగు పడింది.
1.19 లక్షల ఎకరాలకు సాగునీరు
వెలిగొండ ప్రాజెక్ట్ ఫేజ్-1 పూర్తిస్థాయిలో అందుబాటులోకి వస్తే సుమారు 1.19 లక్షల ఎకరాలకు సాగునీరు అందించనున్నారు. ప్రకాశం, నెల్లూరు, కడప జిల్లాల్లోని కరవు ప్రభావిత ప్రాంతాలకు ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ కీలకంగా మారనుంది.
దశాబ్దాలుగా సాగునీటి కోసం ఎదురుచూస్తున్న రైతులకు వెలిగొండ ప్రాజెక్ట్ ఆశాకిరణంగా నిలుస్తుందని అధికారులు, ప్రజాప్రతినిధులు పేర్కొంటున్నారు. వెలిగొండ ప్రాజెక్ట్ ద్వారా సాగునీరు అందుబాటులోకి రావడంతో వ్యవసాయ రంగానికి ఊతం లభించనుంది.
4 లక్షల మందికి తాగునీరు
సాగునీటితో పాటు వెలిగొండ ప్రాజెక్ట్ ద్వారా సుమారు 4 లక్షల మంది జనాభాకు తాగునీరు అందించనున్నారు. దీంతో కరవు ప్రభావిత ప్రాంతాల్లో తాగునీటి సమస్యకు కూడా కొంతమేర పరిష్కారం లభించే అవకాశం ఉంది.
నీటి కొరతతో ఇబ్బందులు ఎదుర్కొంటున్న గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతాల్లో వెలిగొండ జలాలు ప్రజల జీవన ప్రమాణాలను మెరుగుపరచడంలో కీలక పాత్ర పోషిస్తాయని ప్రభుత్వం భావిస్తోంది.
కరవు ప్రాంతాలకు కొత్త జీవం
