Boduppal Bus Terminal to Be Built for ₹3.22 Crore, Completion Target Set at 100 Days

Boduppal Bus Terminal project to improve Hyderabad public transport

New City Bus Terminal to Benefit One Lakh Commuters Daily; Project Aims to Ease Traffic Congestion at Uppal Junction

BODUPPAL, MEDCHAL–MALKAJGIRI: In a significant development for Hyderabad’s public transport infrastructure, a new city bus terminal is coming up at Boduppal at an estimated cost of ₹3.22 crore. Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar laid the foundation stone for the project at the Uppal Zonal Workshop premises under Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

The government has set a target of completing the Boduppal bus terminal within 100 days. The proposed facility is expected to improve passenger convenience, streamline bus operations and reduce traffic congestion at the busy Uppal crossroads, where city and district buses frequently halt simultaneously.

The project is particularly significant for commuters travelling between Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, Uppal and other rapidly developing residential areas in the eastern part of Hyderabad.

According to the report published by Disha Daily, the project is being undertaken with funding from Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. The foundation ceremony was attended by MLA Mallareddy, TGSRTC Managing Director Nagireddy, Municipal Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy, Thotakura Vajresh Yadav and other public representatives and officials.

Boduppal Bus Terminal: ₹3.22-Crore Infrastructure Project

The proposed Boduppal bus terminal is designed to address the growing demand for organised public transport facilities in the rapidly expanding Hyderabad metropolitan region.

The ₹3.22-crore project will be developed at the Uppal Zonal Workshop premises near Boduppal Circle-10. The facility is intended to provide dedicated infrastructure for buses and passengers, reducing the need for buses to halt at congested road junctions.

The project plan includes dedicated bus bays, heavy-duty concrete driveways, passenger shelters and public toilet blocks. A compound wall will also be constructed to secure the premises.

These facilities are expected to improve the movement of buses within the terminal and provide passengers with designated waiting areas.

The development of the Boduppal bus terminal also reflects the growing importance of transport infrastructure in areas experiencing rapid residential expansion and increased daily commuting.

1,053 Bus Trips a Day; One Lakh Passengers Expected to Benefit

Addressing the gathering, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that approximately 1,053 bus trips operate daily from the region. Once the Boduppal bus terminal becomes operational, it is expected to provide improved facilities to around one lakh passengers every day.

The region serves commuters travelling to several destinations, including Bhongir, Yadagirigutta, Hanamkonda and Warangal.

With a large number of buses and passengers using the surrounding routes, a dedicated city bus terminal is expected to help organise bus operations more efficiently.

For daily commuters, particularly office employees, students, traders and passengers travelling to neighbouring districts, the proposed facility could offer a more convenient boarding and waiting experience.

The minister also announced that the new bus station would be named to reflect the importance of both Boduppal and Peerzadiguda.

Uppal Traffic Congestion: Can the New Terminal Provide Relief?

Uppal crossroads is an important transport junction in Hyderabad, connecting several residential and commercial areas with the city’s major road network.

The simultaneous halting of city buses and district services at the junction has contributed to traffic bottlenecks and affected the movement of other vehicles.

The proposed Boduppal bus terminal is intended to provide a dedicated location for bus operations, helping reduce the concentration of buses at the Uppal junction.

The planned bus bays and concrete driveways are expected to facilitate more orderly entry, parking and exit movements. Passenger shelters and toilet facilities will also improve basic commuter amenities.

However, the extent of traffic relief will depend on how bus routes, stopping points and terminal operations are organised after the facility is completed.

The coordination between Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation and traffic police officials will therefore remain important for achieving the project’s intended benefits.

100-Day Deadline: Construction Progress Will Be Key

The announcement of a 100-day completion target has drawn attention to the Boduppal bus terminal project.

The foundation stone ceremony marks the beginning of the publicly announced construction phase. Meeting the deadline will depend on construction progress, infrastructure quality and timely completion of the proposed passenger facilities.

Once the terminal becomes operational, commuters from Boduppal, Peerzadiguda and surrounding localities are expected to benefit from improved public transport infrastructure.

For residents, the key expectations include easier access to buses, more organised boarding arrangements, sheltered waiting areas and a reduction in congestion caused by buses stopping at busy road junctions.

The actual completion date and operational launch will need to be confirmed through subsequent official announcements.

Telangana RTC to Receive More Buses and Electric Vehicles

During the event, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also spoke about the government’s efforts to strengthen the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).

According to the minister, more than 3,000 new buses have been purchased, while another 2,200 electric buses are expected under the PM E-DRIVE scheme.

He said new bus routes were being introduced in Hyderabad and encouraged people to submit requests to the authorities wherever additional bus services were needed.

The minister also stated that 250 older diesel buses were being retrofitted in the first phase, as part of efforts to promote cleaner transport and reduce urban pollution.

The expansion of the electric bus fleet, combined with the development of new terminals, is expected to support the modernisation of public transport services.

Free Bus Travel for Women: Minister Highlights Savings

The minister also referred to the state’s free bus travel scheme for women.

According to figures cited by him, the scheme had recorded 367 crore free journeys, resulting in reported savings of ₹12,888 crore for women passengers.

He said the government was continuing its efforts to improve passenger amenities at bus stations and strengthen the delivery of public transport services.

The scheme has become an important component of the state’s public transport policy, while investments in terminals and buses are intended to improve the infrastructure supporting daily travel.

₹1,400 Crore in Retired RTC Employees’ Dues

The minister also addressed the issue of pending dues payable to retired RTC employees.

He said approximately ₹1,400 crore was outstanding and that the matter had been discussed with the Chief Minister. He expressed hope that a decision would be taken soon.

The minister added that pending contributions to the Employees’ Credit Cooperative Society (CCS) and Provident Fund (PF) were being paid in instalments. He also referred to measures concerning pay revisions and dearness allowance arrears.

He said a process to initiate the RTC merger would be taken forward through a committee involving the elected employees’ union.

Road Safety and Electric Mobility Initiatives

The minister further highlighted measures aimed at improving road safety, including the introduction of reflectors, implementation of a vehicle scrappage policy and steps towards establishing automated testing stations.

He also referred to an allocation of ₹200 crore for electric autos in the core urban area and said the state’s electric vehicle policy was intended to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

These initiatives form part of broader efforts to improve transport safety, reduce pollution and modernise mobility infrastructure.

Boduppal Bus Terminal: A Key Development for Hyderabad’s Eastern Corridor

The ₹3.22-crore Boduppal bus terminal is an important proposed addition to the public transport infrastructure of the eastern Hyderabad region.

With 1,053 daily bus trips reported from the area and an estimated one lakh passengers expected to benefit, the project has the potential to improve commuter convenience and help streamline bus movements around Uppal.

The next major milestones will be the progress of construction, completion of the planned facilities and commencement of terminal operations.

If the 100-day target is achieved and the terminal is efficiently integrated into the bus network, the Boduppal bus terminal could become a valuable transport facility for commuters from Boduppal, Peerzadiguda and neighbouring areas.

The immediate focus now shifts to construction progress and whether the terminal can be completed within the announced 100-day deadline.
