Singareni Workers’ Issues: Telangana Rakshana Sena Protests, Demands 35% Profit Share

Hyderabad, October 5: The Telangana Rakshana Sena staged a protest in Hyderabad on Monday, demanding immediate resolution of the long-pending Singareni workers’ issues. Party president Kalvakuntla Kavitha led the protestors in an attempt to lay siege to Singareni Bhavan, raising several demands related to workers’ welfare, employment, medical boards, wages and the financial position of Singareni Collieries.
The major demand raised during the Singareni workers protest was a 35% share in Singareni’s profits for workers. Kavitha argued that workers who contribute directly to the company’s production and profits should receive a larger share of the profits.
35% Profit Share for Singareni Workers
The Telangana Rakshana Sena demanded that Singareni workers should receive 35% of the company’s profits.
The issue of Singareni profit share has become a major concern among coal mine workers. The organisation demanded that the government and Singareni management take a favourable decision on the 35% profit-sharing demand and ensure that workers receive their rightful benefits.
Demand to Conduct Medical Board Twice a Month
Another major issue raised during the Singareni workers protest was the functioning of the medical board.
Kavitha demanded that workers who have applied before the Singareni Medical Board and are eligible on medical grounds should be declared unfit without unnecessary delay.
She also demanded that the Singareni Medical Board should be conducted twice every month to speed up the processing of pending cases.
The demand is particularly important for workers seeking medical unfitness benefits and their families who may become eligible for dependent employment under applicable rules.
Resolve Alias Names Issue
The Telangana Rakshana Sena also demanded an immediate solution to the long-standing alias names issue among Singareni workers.
The organisation urged Singareni management to examine such cases and take appropriate measures to resolve genuine workers’ problems without causing further hardship to employees and their families.
Fill Junior Assistant Vacancies
The protestors demanded the immediate filling of vacant Junior Assistant posts in Singareni.
According to the organisation, filling vacant posts would help improve administrative efficiency while also creating employment opportunities for eligible candidates.
Give Jobs to Dependents Held Up Over Vigilance Issues
Another key demand concerned dependent jobs in Singareni.
The Telangana Rakshana Sena demanded that employment opportunities for eligible dependents whose cases have been kept pending in the name of vigilance inquiries should be processed and appointments should be provided wherever there are no legal or eligibility barriers.
The issue of dependent employment is particularly significant for Singareni families because such jobs provide financial security to families of workers under applicable employment schemes.
Two Guntas of Land for Every Worker
The organisation also demanded that every Singareni worker should be provided two guntas of land under a housing scheme.
The demand aims to help Singareni workers construct their own houses and secure permanent residential facilities for their families.
The protestors said workers who have spent years working in coal mines deserve strong housing and welfare support.
Allocate New Coal Blocks to Singareni
The Telangana Rakshana Sena demanded that new coal blocks should be allocated to Singareni Collieries.
The organisation argued that new coal blocks are essential for strengthening Singareni’s future operations, maintaining coal production and protecting the long-term interests of Singareni workers.
The demand for new coal blocks is also linked to the future employment security of thousands of workers associated with Singareni.
Scrap Income Tax for Singareni Workers
The protest also raised the demand for abolition of income tax for Singareni workers.
The organisation argued that coal mining involves difficult and hazardous working conditions and demanded special financial relief for Singareni employees.
According to the protesters, reducing the tax burden would provide additional financial support to workers and their families.
Higher Wages for Contract Workers
The Telangana Rakshana Sena demanded that Singareni contract workers should be paid wages according to the recommendations of the High Power Committee.
Contract workers form an important part of the workforce associated with mining and related operations. The organisation demanded that their wages and employment-related benefits should be implemented in accordance with the recommendations applicable to them.
₹62,000 Crore Dues to Singareni
One of the biggest financial demands raised during the protest was the immediate payment of ₹62,000 crore reportedly owed to Singareni by the government.
The Telangana Rakshana Sena demanded that the government clear the pending dues immediately and strengthen Singareni’s financial position.
The organisation argued that clearing government dues would help the company improve its financial stability and support worker welfare and development activities.
List of Major Demands
The Singareni workers’ protest raised several major demands, including:
- 35% profit share for Singareni workers
- Conduct the Singareni Medical Board twice a month
- Resolve pending medical unfitness cases
- Resolve the alias names issue
- Fill vacant Junior Assistant posts
- Provide pending dependent jobs held up over vigilance issues
- Provide two guntas of land to every Singareni worker for housing
- Allocate new coal blocks to Singareni
- Abolish income tax for Singareni workers
- Implement High Power Committee-recommended wages for contract workers
- Immediately clear ₹62,000 crore in government dues to Singareni
Singareni Workers’ Issues Take Centre Stage
The protest has once again brought Singareni workers’ issues into the spotlight in Telangana. From Singareni profit share and medical board cases to dependent employment, contract worker wages, housing and new coal blocks, the demands cover several key aspects of workers’ welfare and the future of Singareni Collieries.
The focus now shifts to the response of the Telangana government and Singareni management to the demands raised by the Telangana Rakshana Sena.
For thousands of employees and their families, the resolution of these Singareni workers’ issues remains a significant concern, particularly the demand for a 35% profit share, faster medical board decisions, dependent employment and the settlement of pending dues.
