హైదరాబాద్: నగరంలోని ఖైరతాబాద్ నియోజకవర్గంలో దోమల బెడద రోజురోజుకూ తీవ్రమవుతోంది. పగలు, రాత్రి తేడా లేకుండా దోమలు స్వైరవిహారం చేస్తుండటంతో ప్రజలు తీవ్ర ఇబ్బందులు ఎదుర్కొంటున్నారు. ఇళ్లలోనే కాకుండా రోడ్లు, బస్తీలు, మార్కెట్లు, పార్కుల పరిసరాల్లోనూ దోమల బెడద పెరిగిందని స్థానికులు ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేస్తున్నారు. పలుమార్లు ఫిర్యాదులు చేసినా సంబంధిత అధికారులు తగిన స్థాయిలో స్పందించడం లేదని వారు ఆరోపిస్తున్నారు.

ఖైరతాబాద్ ఇందిరానగర్ కాలనీ, బీజేఆర్నగర్, మహాభారత్నగర్, డబుల్ బెడ్రూమ్ సముదాయం, న్యూ సీఐబీ క్వార్టర్స్, శ్రీనివాసనగర్, బుడగజంగం బస్తీ, మార్కెట్, ఓల్డ్ సీఐబీ క్వార్టర్స్, లక్ష్మీనగర్ ప్రాంతాలతో పాటు ఎర్రమంజిల్, పంజాగుట్ట, సోమాజిగూడ, బంజారాహిల్స్, జూబ్లీహిల్స్ తదితర ప్రాంతాల్లో దోమల సమస్య తీవ్రంగా ఉందని స్థానికులు చెబుతున్నారు.
దోమల కారణంగా ప్రజలు రాత్రివేళ నిద్రపోవడం కూడా కష్టంగా మారిందని వాపోతున్నారు. ముఖ్యంగా ఇళ్ల చుట్టుపక్కల నీరు నిల్వ ఉండటం, చెత్త పేరుకుపోవడం, మురుగు కాలువలు, ఖాళీ ప్రదేశాల్లో నీటి నిల్వలు దోమల ఉత్పత్తికి కేంద్రాలుగా మారుతున్నాయని స్థానికులు పేర్కొంటున్నారు.
కనిపించని ఎంటమాలజీ సిబ్బంది?
సాధారణంగా జీహెచ్ఎంసీ ఎంటమాలజీ విభాగం సిబ్బంది వారానికోసారి వివిధ ప్రాంతాల్లో పర్యటించి నీరు నిల్వ ఉన్న ప్రాంతాలను గుర్తించడం, యాంటీ లార్వా ఆపరేషన్ నిర్వహించడం, దోమల మందు పిచికారీ చేయడం వంటి చర్యలు చేపడతారు. ఇళ్ల వద్ద కూడా సిబ్బంది పర్యటించినట్లు గుర్తులు వేస్తుంటారని స్థానికులు చెబుతున్నారు.
అయితే ప్రస్తుతం దోమలు విజృంభిస్తున్నప్పటికీ ఎంటమాలజీ సిబ్బంది కనిపించడం లేదని ప్రజలు ఆరోపిస్తున్నారు. వార్డుల వారీగా సిబ్బందిని కేటాయించినప్పటికీ సాధారణ ప్రజలు నివసించే ప్రాంతాల్లో తగినంతగా దోమల నివారణ చర్యలు చేపట్టడం లేదనే విమర్శలు వినిపిస్తున్నాయి.
కొన్ని ప్రాంతాల్లో సిబ్బంది కేవలం వీఐపీ, ముఖ్య ప్రాంతాలకే పరిమితమవుతున్నారనే ఆరోపణలు కూడా స్థానికుల నుంచి వస్తున్నాయి. అయితే ఈ ఆరోపణలపై సంబంధిత అధికారులు స్పష్టత ఇవ్వాల్సి ఉంది.
ఫాగింగ్ ఎక్కడ?
దోమల నివారణలో ఫాగింగ్ కీలకమైన చర్యల్లో ఒకటి. దోమల సంఖ్య పెరిగిన ప్రాంతాల్లో అవసరానికి అనుగుణంగా ఫాగింగ్ నిర్వహించాల్సి ఉన్నప్పటికీ, తమ ప్రాంతాల్లో ఫాగింగ్ వాహనాలు కనిపించడం లేదని ప్రజలు అంటున్నారు.
హుస్సేన్సాగర్ పరివాహక ప్రాంతాల్లోని బస్తీలు, మురికివాడల్లో దోమల సమస్య మరింత ఎక్కువగా ఉందని స్థానికులు చెబుతున్నారు. ఐమాక్స్ ఎదురుగా ఉన్న లేక్వ్యూ పార్కు, బంజారాహిల్స్లోని బంజారా లేక్ పరిసరాల్లో కూడా దోమల నియంత్రణ చర్యలు మరింత విస్తృతంగా చేపట్టాలని ప్రజలు కోరుతున్నారు.
డ్రోన్ల ద్వారా దోమల మందు పిచికారీ చేస్తామని గతంలో చెప్పినప్పటికీ, ఆ చర్యలు పూర్తిస్థాయిలో అమలవుతున్నాయా? లేదా? అనే దానిపై కూడా ప్రజల్లో సందేహాలు వ్యక్తమవుతున్నాయి.
దోమలతో ప్రజలకు నిద్రలేని రాత్రులు
“పగలు, రాత్రి తేడా లేకుండా దోమలు కుడుతున్నాయి. రాత్రి చెవుల దగ్గర గుయ్.. గుయ్ అంటూ నిద్ర లేకుండా చేస్తున్నాయి. ఇంతగా దోమలు ఎప్పుడూ చూడలేదు. వెంటనే దోమల నివారణ చర్యలు చేపట్టాలి” అని బ్యాంకు ఉద్యోగి టి. విజయ్ ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు.
ఫాగింగ్ ఏది? దోమల మందేది?
న్యూ సీఐబీ క్వార్టర్స్కు చెందిన నర్సింగ్రావు మాట్లాడుతూ.. దోమల బెడదను తట్టుకోలేకపోతున్నామని తెలిపారు. “మస్కిటో మ్యాట్స్, ఆలౌట్, ఇతర దోమల నివారణ ఉత్పత్తులు ఉపయోగిస్తున్నా పూర్తిస్థాయిలో ప్రయోజనం ఉండటం లేదు. ఎంటమాలజీ సిబ్బంది కనిపించడం లేదు. అవసరమైన సమయంలో పనిచేయకపోతే ప్రజలు ఎవరిని ఆశ్రయించాలి?” అని ప్రశ్నించారు.
వెంటనే ప్రత్యేక దోమల నివారణ చర్యలు చేపట్టాలి
ఖైరతాబాద్ నియోజకవర్గంలోని దోమల సమస్యపై జీహెచ్ఎంసీ ఉన్నతాధికారులు ప్రత్యేక దృష్టి సారించాలని స్థానికులు కోరుతున్నారు. ముఖ్యంగా దోమలు అధికంగా ఉన్న ప్రాంతాలను గుర్తించి యాంటీ లార్వా ఆపరేషన్లు, ఫాగింగ్, దోమల మందు పిచికారీ, నీటి నిల్వల తొలగింపు, పారిశుధ్య చర్యలు సమన్వయంతో చేపట్టాలని విజ్ఞప్తి చేస్తున్నారు.
దోమల నియంత్రణకు కేవలం ఫాగింగ్ చేయడం మాత్రమే కాకుండా దోమల లార్వా పెరిగే ప్రదేశాలను గుర్తించి నిర్మూలించడం, మురుగు కాలువలను శుభ్రం చేయడం, చెత్త తొలగించడం వంటి చర్యలను నిరంతరంగా చేపట్టాల్సిన అవసరం ఉంది.
ఖైరతాబాద్లో దోమల బెడదపై జీహెచ్ఎంసీ అధికారులు ఇప్పటికైనా స్పందించి, ప్రజలకు ఇబ్బంది కలగకుండా ప్రత్యేక దోమల నివారణ డ్రైవ్ చేపట్టాలని స్థానికులు డిమాండ్ చేస్తున్నారు.

Hyderabad: The Khairatabad mosquito problem has intensified across several residential colonies, slums and commercial areas in Hyderabad, leaving residents struggling with mosquito bites during both the day and night. Locals allege that repeated complaints to the authorities have failed to bring any visible improvement in mosquito control measures.
Residents say the growing mosquito menace in Khairatabad is affecting their daily lives, particularly at night, when mosquitoes make it difficult for families to sleep. They are demanding immediate action from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to control the situation.
Entomology Staff Missing When Mosquito Menace Peaks
Under normal circumstances, GHMC’s entomology teams conduct regular field visits to identify stagnant water, garbage accumulation points and other mosquito breeding areas. The teams are expected to carry out anti-larval operations, spray mosquito-control chemicals and inspect residential areas.
However, residents claim that GHMC entomology staff are rarely visible in several affected localities despite the increase in mosquitoes.
The Khairatabad mosquito problem has reportedly affected areas including Indiranagar Colony, BJR Nagar, Mahabharat Nagar, the Double Bedroom Housing Complex, New CIB Quarters, Srinivasanagar, Budagajangam Basti, Market area, Old CIB Quarters and Laxminagar.
The mosquito menace has also been reported in Erramanzil, Punjagutta, Somajiguda, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills.
Residents allege that entomology personnel assigned to different wards are not conducting mosquito-control operations consistently in all localities. There are also allegations that priority is being given to VIP and prominent areas while several residential and low-income neighbourhoods are being neglected.
Allegations Over Mosquito-Control Chemicals
Some residents have also raised serious allegations regarding the handling of mosquito-control chemicals and fogging material, claiming that chemicals meant for public mosquito-control operations are allegedly being diverted or sold to private agencies.
These are allegations made by residents and require verification by the concerned authorities. GHMC officials are yet to clarify the claims.
Fogging Missing in Mosquito-Hit Areas
Fogging operations are another major concern among residents.
Locals say fogging is not being carried out regularly in areas where the mosquito problem in Hyderabad has become severe. The situation is reportedly particularly difficult in slum settlements and densely populated areas around the Hussainsagar lake region.
Residents are also questioning the implementation of proposed mosquito-control measures around Lake View Park opposite IMAX and Banjara Lake in Banjara Hills.
Earlier assurances regarding the use of drones for spraying mosquito-control chemicals in lake areas have also raised questions among residents, who want to know whether such measures are actually being implemented on the ground.
Residents Complain of Sleepless Nights
The severity of the Khairatabad mosquito problem can be gauged from the complaints of local residents, who say mosquitoes are attacking people inside homes as well as outdoors.
“Mosquitoes are biting throughout the day and night. At night, the constant buzzing near our ears makes it difficult to sleep. We have never seen mosquitoes in such large numbers. Immediate mosquito-control measures are needed,” said T. Vijay, a bank employee.
‘Where Is the Fogging? Where Is the Mosquito Spray?’
Residents say they are being forced to depend on mosquito coils, mats and other household mosquito repellents because official mosquito-control operations are not visible in several localities.
“We are unable to tolerate the mosquito menace. We use mosquito mats, All Out and other repellents, but they are not enough. The entomology staff are not visible when their services are actually needed. Public representatives and officials should respond immediately and ensure that mosquito-control operations are carried out,” said Narsing Rao of New CIB Quarters.
Residents Demand Immediate GHMC Action
With the mosquito menace in Hyderabad becoming a growing public concern, residents are demanding that GHMC officials conduct a comprehensive inspection of mosquito-breeding sites across Khairatabad.
They want authorities to intensify anti-larval operations, fogging, mosquito spraying, sanitation drives and removal of stagnant water in mosquito-prone areas.
Residents also want ward-level monitoring of entomology teams and regular public updates on fogging schedules so that mosquito-control operations reach all affected neighbourhoods rather than being concentrated only in prominent areas.
The Khairatabad mosquito problem requires immediate attention, particularly in densely populated settlements and areas surrounding stagnant water bodies. Residents are urging GHMC officials and elected representatives to launch a special mosquito control drive in Khairatabad before the situation worsens further.
