Kishan Reddy Rules Out BJP-BRS Alliance in Telangana Elections

Union Minister Says BJP Will Contest Telangana Elections Without Any Alliance; Takes a Dig at KTR and Kavitha
Hyderabad: Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader G. Kishan Reddy has categorically ruled out any possibility of an alliance between the BJP and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the upcoming Telangana elections.
Kishan Reddy said the BJP would contest elections in Telangana independently, irrespective of which election is being held. His remarks come amid renewed political discussions over a possible BJP-BRS alliance in Telangana, particularly ahead of the 2028 Telangana Assembly elections.
Responding to questions from journalists, Kishan Reddy questioned the basis of speculation about a BJP-BRS alliance.
He further said that KTR should first resolve his differences with his sister K Kavitha before looking towards other political alliances.
BJP-BRS Alliance: Kishan Reddy Gives Clear Message
The remarks by Kishan Reddy on the BJP-BRS alliance are significant as speculation over the political equation between the two parties has continued in Telangana.
Kishan Reddy made it clear that the BJP will contest Telangana elections without an alliance with BRS. His statement reinforces the BJP’s publicly stated position that it intends to build its political strength independently in Telangana.
The BJP-BRS alliance has remained a subject of political discussion in Telangana, with leaders from different parties making competing claims about possible future political combinations.
However, the latest statements from both sides have provided a clearer picture of their publicly stated positions.
KTR Also Rules Out BJP Alliance
Interestingly, Kishan Reddy’s comments came around the same time as BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) ruled out an alliance with the BJP.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave South 2026, KTR said the BRS and BJP were ideologically different and ruled out an alliance between the two parties. He pointed out that the BRS had contested the 2014, 2018 and 2023 Telangana Assembly elections independently.
KTR had also ruled out a BJP alliance earlier in September, saying that there would be no alliance with the BJP ahead of the 2028 Telangana Assembly elections.
Thus, both Kishan Reddy and KTR have publicly rejected speculation about a BJP-BRS alliance, although the two leaders have done so from opposing political positions.
Kishan Reddy’s Remarks on KTR and Kavitha
Kishan Reddy also brought KTR and K Kavitha into his response while addressing the alliance question.
His remark that KTR should first meet his sister Kavitha before seeking other alliances comes amid public political differences involving the members of the KCR family.
Kavitha has recently made sharp public remarks targeting KTR and questioned several of his statements concerning the BRS leadership and its past functioning. These exchanges have added another dimension to the ongoing political developments surrounding the BRS.
The internal political differences involving KTR and Kavitha have therefore become part of the wider discussion surrounding the future of the BRS in Telangana.
What Does This Mean for Telangana Politics?
The latest Kishan Reddy statement on the BJP-BRS alliance adds another significant development to the political narrative in Telangana.
The BJP has been seeking to expand its organisational and electoral presence in Telangana, while the BRS is preparing to contest the next Assembly election. The Congress remains the ruling party in the state following the 2023 Assembly election.
With the next Telangana Assembly election scheduled for 2028, political parties have already started articulating their positions on alliances, leadership and electoral strategy.
At present, the publicly stated positions of both the BJP and BRS are clear: Kishan Reddy has ruled out a BJP-BRS alliance, while KTR has also ruled out a BRS-BJP alliance.
BJP-BRS Alliance Debate Continues
Despite repeated public denials, the BJP-BRS alliance remains a recurring topic in Telangana political discourse. Earlier political statements and claims by rival parties have contributed to continued speculation.
However, statements made by political leaders should be distinguished from political predictions or claims made by their opponents. The latest direct statements from Kishan Reddy and KTR indicate that neither BJP nor BRS is currently publicly committing to an alliance for the next Telangana Assembly election.
The political landscape could evolve as the Telangana elections 2028 approach, but the present position communicated by the two parties is that they intend to contest independently.
