ముంబయి: మిస్ ఇండియా కిరీటం గెలవాలంటే అందం మాత్రమే కాదు.. ఆత్మవిశ్వాసం, ప్రతిభ, అదృష్టం కూడా కలిసిరావాలి. కానీ 1970 మిస్ ఇండియా వీణా సజ్నాని కథ మాత్రం వీటన్నింటికంటే భిన్నం. ఎందుకంటే ఆమె మిస్ ఇండియా 1970 పోటీకి అసలు దరఖాస్తే చేయలేదు. అయినప్పటికీ అనూహ్యంగా పోటీలోకి ప్రవేశించి ఏకంగా మిస్ ఇండియా కిరీటాన్ని సొంతం చేసుకున్నారు. దాదాపు ఐదు దశాబ్దాల క్రితం జరిగిన ఈ ఆసక్తికరమైన సంఘటనను ఆమె మేనకోడలు స్మిత సజ్నాని ‘ఇండియన్ మెమరీ ప్రాజెక్ట్’ ద్వారా పంచుకున్నారు.
మోడల్గా నెలకు కాదు.. షోకు రూ.150
వీణా సజ్నాని 1970లో ఫెమినా గ్రూప్తో కలిసి ఫ్యాషన్ మోడల్గా పనిచేసేవారు. దేశవ్యాప్తంగా వివిధ టెక్స్టైల్ సంస్థల కోసం నిర్వహించే ఫ్యాషన్ షోల్లో పాల్గొనేవారు. అప్పట్లో ఒక్కో షోకు ఆమెకు రూ.150 పారితోషికం వచ్చేది. 20 షోలు పూర్తయిన తర్వాత రూ.3,000తో ఇంటికి వెళ్లేవారు. ఆ సమయంలో కేవలం పది మంది మోడళ్లే ఉండటంతో వారంతా కలిసి ప్రయాణిస్తూ సరదాగా గడిపేవారని వీణా సజ్నాని తన జ్ఞాపకాల్లో వివరించారు.
అయితే ఓ రోజు ఫ్యాషన్ షో రిహార్సల్స్కు వెళ్లిన వీణకు ఊహించని షాక్ ఎదురైంది. ఇకపై షోకు అవసరం లేదని ఆమెకు చెప్పారు. తాను ఏదైనా తప్పు చేశానేమో.. అందుకే తనను తొలగించారేమోనని ఆమె ఆందోళన చెందారు. కానీ అసలు కారణం తెలుసుకున్న తర్వాత ఆమె ఆశ్చర్యపోయారు.
అసలు దరఖాస్తే చేయలేదు.. అయినా మిస్ ఇండియా పోటీలోకి!
వీణను రిహార్సల్స్ నుంచి తొలగించడానికి కారణం ఆమెపై వచ్చిన ఫిర్యాదు కాదు. మిస్ ఇండియా 1970 పోటీకి ఆమెను ఎంపిక చేయడమే!
మరింత ఆసక్తికరమైన విషయం ఏమిటంటే.. వీణ స్వయంగా మిస్ ఇండియా పోటీకి దరఖాస్తు చేయలేదు. అప్పటి ప్రముఖ మోడల్స్, ఆమె స్నేహితులు మెహర్ మిస్త్రీ, పర్సిస్ ఖంబటా ఆమెకు మిస్ ఇండియా కిరీటం గెలిచే సామర్థ్యం ఉందని భావించి ఆమె తరఫున దరఖాస్తు చేశారు. దీంతో అనుకోకుండా Miss India 1970 contestantsలో వీణ చోటు సంపాదించారు.
పరిమిత బడ్జెట్తోనే అందాల పోటీకి సిద్ధం
పోటీకి సమయం చాలా తక్కువగా ఉండటంతో వీణ తన సోదరితో కలిసి షాపింగ్కు వెళ్లారు. పరిమిత బడ్జెట్లో ఎమరాల్డ్ గ్రీన్ చిఫాన్ చీర కొనుగోలు చేశారు. దానికి గోల్డ్ వర్క్ ఉండటంతో స్టేజ్ లైట్లలో ఎంతో ఆకర్షణీయంగా కనిపించింది.
బ్లౌజ్ను అప్పటి బొంబాయి టైలర్లు తక్కువ సమయంలోనే సిద్ధం చేశారు. ఇలా ఎలాంటి భారీ ఏర్పాట్లు లేకుండా వీణ మిస్ ఇండియా 1970 పోటీ వేదికపైకి అడుగుపెట్టారు.
అప్పటి స్విమ్సూట్ రౌండ్ కూడా చాలా ప్రత్యేకం

పర్సిస్ ఖంబటా ముందే చెప్పేశారు!
మిస్ ఇండియా 1970 పోటీ సమయంలో మరో ఆసక్తికరమైన సంఘటన జరిగింది. వీణా సజ్నాని స్నేహితురాలు పర్సిస్ ఖంబటా ర్యాంప్ వాక్ చేస్తూనే న్యాయనిర్ణేతల స్పందనను గమనించారు.
